about

FruXure (pronounced "Frock-sure") is a Vancouver-based hard rock project by local musician Issah Contractor. Issah has been a hard working contributor to the Vancouver music scene as an enthusiastic musician whose work celebrates and transforms the standard definition of jazz fusion as well as rock. During the last year, Issah has been embarking on the challenging process of recording two albums simultaneously: FruXure’s "Are We All In The Dark?" and the IC Project, which is a performing and recording Jazz Fusion project.

FruXure is Issah’s compositional focus, leading Issah to record the drums, bass and guitar. The effect created by a one-man rhythm section is a consistent groove within the 3 instruments and, in effect, produces a musically intelligent and hefty vibe of progressive rock. The sound FruXure creates is unlike anything that has entered the hard rock world before, which makes sense considering the genre is being approached by someone with extensive experience in jazz theory. Issah has an incredible ear for both rhythm and music, often writing the slightest nuance to complete an arrangement and make it perfect in its complexity.

His lyrics are personal but relatable, talking of a need for global consciousness and an end to apathetic anti-social policy. Paired with a sophisticated sound, these lyrics stir the listener with precise clarity. Issah writes all music and lyrics for FruXure but employs the vocal talents of band mate Reggie Hache. Reggie’s unique and aggressive vocals make him an important entity to FruXure’s polished sound; nailing vocals with unwavering consistency throughout the performance. The third participant in the trio was the engineer and producer, Jason Martin. Jason, a gifted musician and producer, lent a unique view, both sonically and directionally, and helped give the album its strong individual voice.

With the album’s completion, Issah and Reggie team up with a crew of intensely talented Van-City musicians: Brian Poulsen - guitar, Teague Purtell - guitar, Jay Benison - drums, and Ras Contractor - keys, to create a live show that will leave the audience riveted and thirsty for more. Together, they are a polished and well oiled progressive rock machine, creating a project that is both anxious to re-write the book and respectful of the foundation that created it.
